V Rising emerged onto the gaming scene in 2024, introducing players to an action combat role-playing experience, intertwined with survival elements, and a strong vampiric theme. The game attempts to integrate gameplay features such as exploration and crafting mechanics, which it does well. Initially available exclusively for Microsoft Windows during its two-year early access phase, V Rising later expanded its reach to PlayStation 5 upon its full release.

V Rising: Best Pistols, Ranked
Pistols are useful weapons in V Rising, but are not unlocked until around the mid-game stage. Here's all the options players have at their disposal.
Mounts are a feature of V Rising. Specifically, horses. There is nothing very complicated about riding a horse in V Rising. It is simply a case of finding one, walking up to it, and getting on. Each horse has 3 stats: max speed, acceleration, and max rotation speed which are set randomly on spawn, within certain limits. The combination of these stats impacts the performance of the horse.
Why Use A Horse In V Rising?
The V Rising map is pretty large, and it can be dangerous to traverse at walking speed. This is where a well-trained horse can help. When riding a horse, the player can ride past most enemies, although high-level NPCs do have a chance of knocking a player off their horse. Using the E key whilst mounted will start the horse galloping, which is the fastest method of travel in the game.
Combat is possible from the back of a horse, but the player will find they are limited to their basic attack and cannot use any of their special abilities. This is fine for clearing groups of low-level enemies but the player will need to dismount to fight harder NPCs.
Where To Find Horses In V Rising
Finding and acquiring a horse in V rising is very easy. All the player has to do is head to Dunley Farmlands and start looking around for one. They can be found in many locations, including grazing in farm fields, tied to carts, and sometimes at a town stable. Once a horse has been found, the player just needs to walk up to it and interact with it to climb on.

V Rising: Best Axes, Ranked
There are multiple tiers of axe weapons in V Rising, and the player will need to upgrade them as they go. Here's how they rank up.
If a player loses their horse or it gets killed, they will have to head back to Dunley Farmlands, the same location where players farm materials such as thick hide, and acquire another one. Don’t worry, horses respawn quite quickly, making it virtually impossible to be left in a situation where no horse can be found anywhere.
Caring For A Horse In V Rising
First of all, a player can rename their trusty steed in V Rising. There is a button in the UI up at the top right that facilitates this. Horses need to be fed. In the inventory UI, there are 3 empty slots that the player can drag Plant Fiber into, and this is then used to feed the horse.
When a player dismounts a horse to enter combat, the horse might wander away, or it could become damaged or die due to the fighting going on close by. Therefore, it pays to keep an eye on a horse whilst in combat. A better idea is to move away from the enemies the player intends to fight before dismounting. This way the horse cannot be accidently dragged into combat and die.
3 Max Speed
How Fast The Horse Moves
- Minimum value: 8
- Maximum value: 11
The Max Speed stat for a horse is entirely random on spawn, within the minimum and maximum values listed above. The higher the value, the faster the horse will move. This corresponds with both walking speed and galloping speed. For some comparison here, the player’s walking speed is just 4, so even the slowest horse will double how fast the player can move.

V Rising: Best Swords, Ranked
There is a wide range of swords in V Rising, and the player will generally progress through them as they level up.
A faster horse means it is easier to gallop past enemies whilst traversing the game world. To get a little more speed from a horse, the player can equip it with a Vampire Horse Saddle and this will add +1 to the horse's Max Speed stat.
2 Acceleration
How Rapidly The Horse Accelerates
- Minimum value: 3
- Maximum value: 7
In V Rising, when a player mounts a horse and starts moving, it takes a short time for the horse to get up to top speed. This is true whether the horse is walking or galloping. It is the Horse’s Acceleration stat that has a direct impact on this. All horses spawn with a random Acceleration stat between the two values listed above.

6 Best Armor Sets In V Rising, Ranked
There are plenty of armor sets to help players stay alive in V Rising, but these are the best ones for vampires to equip.
A rapidly accelerating horse has a better chance of outrunning dangerous enemies before they can close into range and engage the player. A horse’s Acceleration stat can be improved by +1 by equipping it with a Vampire Horse Saddle.
1 Rotation Speed
How Quickly The Horse Can Turn
- Minimum value: 12
- Maximum value: 14
Some parts of the map in V Rising have some very tight turns, narrow bridges, and flora that get in the way. When riding a horse, this means careful, sometimes frustrating movement around obstacles. How fast the horse can turn will have a direct impact on how easy it is to traverse such terrain.
The Rotation Speed stat for a horse defines how quickly it can turn, the higher the stat the more agile the horse is. All horses spawn with a random Rotation Speed stat between the above-listed values. Unfortunately, equipping a horse with a Vampire Horse Saddle does not improve the Rotation Speed stat at all.
