Aepheixa Hilarious, typical Hong Kong styled comedy. However there are so many mystery characters that we don't get much insight to. And the plot makes your head spin sometimes. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member While this movie is hardly a Classic, I'd say it's absolutely WAY funnier than any of the Austin Powers movies (in fact easily funnier than all three combined), making this possibly the best outright Spy Spoof this side of Archer and the wonderfully unknown Brak episode: "The Shadows of Heat". Stephen Chow does his usual thing here and does it well, where the movie is whacky but the characters are generally serious, himself being an odd blend of being woefully incompetent in certain facets, while being the very best spy in the world (bar none) in other ways. This gives the movie a unique unpredictability in the way it plays out when his character attempting to control a situation or infiltrate a location. Throw in some genuinely funny Gadget gags (the bit where he's walking through the Gadget Test-Facility is particularly hilarious) and some characters with rocky allegiances, and you have a genuinely fun movie, at least for the most part. Like I said, it's actually not a great movie, but considering that the Spy Spoof genre is mostly saturated with dreck like Cars 2 and the Austin Powers trilogy, I'd certainly consider it a Genre high-point. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't get why the critics hate it! This definitely one of Steven Chow's masterpieces. I have a good time watching it. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Stephen Chow's parody of the James Bond Franchise is a joy to watch, and will leave viewers bundling over with laughter. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the weakness of Chow's comedy is that it is extremely difficult to translate into other languages. His ''Mo Lei Tau'' include chains of nonsensical, random dialogue and developments. However, the dialogue part deeply related to Hong Kong's culture and cantonese (puns and slangs). Therefore the movie became pretty plain after translation. In 1994, Hong Kong people were worrying about the handover issue. most of them hated the Chinese government. they also lived a fast-paced and stressful lies. This movie, as a comedy mocking at China, was exactly what they want to see. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Depressingly stupid in a bad way, with some unforgivably bad jokes and attempts at parody. Though there are some fun moments of slapstick and violence, and Chow is mildly entertaining as his usual hyper-competent naïf, it's not enough. (I also got tricked into watching an awful dub.)
